Pam & Leon Phillips: Arizona Slot Canyons
Club members Pam and Leon Phillips spent a year in Boulder, Colorado and Irvine, California, in 2011 and 2012. While Leon, a professor at the University of Canterbury, did research in chemistry on a fellowship in Boulder and as part of an international group in Irvine, Pam, an artist and writer, wrote stories for the Oxford Contemporary Review and The Press.
One of these, a photographic essay about the Arizona Slot Canyons, prompted our request for them to talk to the club. After they had seen photos sent to them by Carol Hemminger, a friend in Irvine, the canyons were their main destination during their drive from Boulder to Irvine, They found four hours in the Lower Antelope Canyon much more interesting than three days at the Grand Canyon.
We have asked them to show some other North American photos, including some from their time in Boulder when they had bears and a mountain lion in their back yard.
